Festive Events for Chinese New Year in Hong Kong

Nest Property

Chinese New Year’s Day marks the beginning of the Spring Festival holiday. This year Chinese New Year falls on Sunday, January 22nd and marks
the Year of the Rabbit. Here are some of the best ways to celebrate this coming weekend.

1. LION AND DRAGON DANCE

Peninsula Hong Kong

Traditional Chinese lion and dragon dance performers on top of a building rooftop.

Featuring nine lions and one dragon, the spectacle commences with a lion-awakening ritual by dotting the eyes of the mighty creatures, followed with a specially choreographed performance. The lion and dragon dance is designed to bring luck, blessings and good fortune to both hotel guests and staff members alike throughout the year.

WHEN: Sunday, 22nd January 2023

WHERE: The Peninsula Hong Kong, Salisbury Road, Hong Kong

2. CHINESE NEW YEAR FIREWORKS

Over Victoria Harbour

Exploding fireworks.

The best places to view the display are both sides of the harbour front in Tsim Sha Tsui, Central, Wan Chai, by boat on the water, or from The Peak. A more enjoyable and less-crowded way is to reserve a spot at a restaurant or bar, or sit in a hotel room with a harbour view.

WHEN: Monday, 23rd January 2023

3. FEAST OF FORTUNE AND HAPPINESS

Times Square

Feast of Fortune and Happiness sculpture of Mickey Mouse.

Times Square joins hands with local toymaker URDU to design Disney characters Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck as auspicious Maneki-neko and Daruma. From January 10 through February 5, two-meter mega-size installations of these two luck-bringing characters will greet everyone at the Times Square Open Piazza as part of the Feast of Fortune and Happiness campaign.
