Best Camping Spots in Hong Kong

Campsites are finally set to reopen on Thursday, 17th November after being closed for over two years. So, if you have been itching to escape into the outdoors for a while then go grab your gear and spend a relaxing weekend away at one of these top campsites. 

 

 

1. TAP MUN (GRASS ISLAND)

Tap Mun also known as Grass Island, is filled with green meadows and wandering, wild cattle. After a breezy ferry ride, you’ll arrive at the secluded neighbourhood of Tap Mun. The campsite is atop a hill, offering stunning views of the surrounding area and attracts campers and picnic-goers alike. When night descends, enjoy some fantastic stargazing.

GETTING THERE: In Sai Kung take the 94 bus from Sai Kung Town to Wong Shek Pier, and catch the ferry to the island.

 

 

2. HAM TIN WAN

Camp right on the beach. The beach takes a bit of a hike to reach but the sea views are totally worth it. Fall asleep to the soothing sounds of the ocean. There is a tuck shop that offers food and drinks available on the beach, so you don’t have to worry about snacks, you can also rent surfboards too.

GETTING THERE: From Sai Kung Town Centre, take bus 94 for Wong Shek Pier and alight at Pak Tam Au. Follow the track down MacLehose Trail Stage 2. Alternatively, you can take a speedboat from Sai Kung Pier.

 

 

3. SAI YUEN CAMPING ADVENTURE PARK

This tranquil island spot comes complete with a range of tents to choose from, so that you don’t have to carry your own around. Offering Mongolian yurts, tepees, safari-style tents and futuristic stargazing domes, each is fully stocked with all the bedding and camping gear you will need.

4. TUNG LUNG CHAU

Popular with climbing enthusiasts and history buffs alike, the three-hectare Tung Lung Chau camping site can be found on the northeast of the island, along with barbecue pits and a few nearby restaurants. You can’t beat the spectacular ocean views.

GETTING THERE: Take a ferry from Sam Ka Tsuen Pier in Yau Tong or Shau Kei Wan Typhoon Shelter in Sai Wan Ho.
