What’s On: Christmas in Hong Kong

Nest Property

Christmas Lights and Displays

Spend a night watching the twinkly Christmas lights. Here are a few of our favourite spots:

Statue Square
The closest you’ll get to NYC at Christmas time. There are great photo opportunities in front of the picturesque Christmas tree and Santa’s grotto. There’s also a choir performing classic carols. This will well and truly get you feeling warm and festive.
Statue Square, Des Voeux Road Central, Hong Kong

Disneyland
Disney pull out all the stops at Christmas time. Enjoy the blanket of Christmas lights whilst watching the Christmas parade with Santa, his elves and reindeer. Make a whole day of it and stay for the fantastic fireworks.
Disneyland HK, Lantau Island, Hong Kong

Symphony of lights
What better way to get into the Christmas spirit than watching the city light up and dance. Book a trip on the Aqua Luna (a traditional red-sail junk) and head over to one of their many restaurants in the One. We would recommend Hutong for some delicious authentic Chinese food or, if it’s drinks you fancy, head up to Aqua Spirit which boasts one of the best views of Victoria Harbour.

Christmas Days out

Days out for everyone. Check out our fun-filled ideas for a Christmas-themed day out:

Winter Wonderland
Ice slides, an enormous ice rink, Northern Lights theatre, ice sculptures (we could go on…) This place really brings that European feel to Hong Kong. Wrap up warm and enjoy a hot cocoa or glass of mulled wine.
Tai Tong, Yuen Long, Hong Kong

Junk
You never know what you’re going to get with Hong Kong weather. We’re often treated to glorious sunny days in December so why not risk it and go for a Turkey feast on a Junk boat? Indulge in Christmas lunch with a twist. The perfect idea for a work party or a pre-Christmas celebration with friends.

Brunch
For those who’d rather play it safe and stay indoors. Enjoy one of HK’s many fabulous brunch spots for a great Christmas themed brunch. Sip on Champagne and pull some crackers as you celebrate the holidays. We’d recommend The Optimist where you can savour Christmas dinner, tapas style!
The Optimist, 239 Hennessy Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong,  +852 2433 3324

Christmas Nights out

Not that you’ll need an excuse for a night out in the run-up to Christmas… but just incase you’re running low on ideas, here are a few to help out:

Dinner Parties
If you’re lucky enough to have a kitchen large enough in HK, then what better reason to host a Christmas Dinner Party. For those who don’t have the space (or would rather make a mess of someone else’s kitchen), we’d recommend Shore Steak Lounge Terrace. One of Hong Kong’s most talked about rooftops where you can organise an intimate dinner or hire out the entire terrace for private parties.
Shore Steak Lounge Terrace, 3 & 4F, the L.place, 139 Queen’s Road Central, Hong Kong, +852 2915 1638

Nutcracker Ballet
The Nutcracker is back in Hong Kong once again to get us all in the holiday spirit. Is Christmas really Christmas until you’ve seen The Nutcracker?
Grand Theatre, Hong Kong  Cultural Centre, 10 Salisbury Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, Hong Kong, +852 2573 7398

Party Tram
Ride on one of Hong Kong’s traditional Ding Dings. These party trams can be hired throughout the day but we’d recommend an evening ride to take in all the Christmas lights along the way.

Christmas Markets

Great for finding those quirky Christmas gifts, or just a cheeky glass of mulled wine, these Christmas markets will get you in the holiday mood:

Foodie Holiday Market
If you’re into your Christmas treats (and who isn’t?) then head over to this foodie market, on every weekend with different pop-ups.
Fashion Walk x Foodie Holiday Market, Fashion Walk, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong

St Stephen’s Chapel
If you want to see the kids’ jaws drop and eyes light up then go and watch Santa arrive in his helicopter before heading into his grotto for a meet and greet.
St. Stephen’s college sports ground, Wong Ma Kok Road, Stanley, Hong Kong

Discovery Bay Sunday Markets
There’s no doubt you’ll find unique gifts at the Discovery Bay Sunday markets. Everything is locally handmade for that extra special touch. The perfect place to find your stocking fillers.
Discovery Bay Main Plaza, Discovery Bay, Lantau, Hong Kong

Stanley Seaside Christmas Market
Enjoy the winter sun, shop all things Christmassy or spoil yourself with traditional goodies. There’s something for all of the family at this Christmas market.
Stanley Plaza, 23 Carmel Road, Stanley, Hong Kong
