Hidden away in a tropical palm-filled garden and nestled between Victoria and Kloof Road, this gem of a location is a rare find on the Atlantic Seaboard. Overlooking the pristine beaches of Clifton and yet a mere ten minutes’ drive from the city and the V&A Waterfront, Pelican House couldn’t be more conveniently placed to enjoy Cape Town’s sought-after lifestyle. The only prerequisite to living here is a degree of fitness, as the walk up Clifton Steps adds some incidental cardio-vascular exercise when returning from a laze on the beach!
Designed to maximise views and with entertaining in mind, the main living space opens onto a courtyard garden and pool. There’s plenty of room for relaxing on loungers or under the pergola in the shade. Early morning breakfasts outdoors and alfresco dinners are heavenly here: you’d be forgiven for thinking that you’re permanently on holiday.
Pelican House, so named for its striking bathroom wallpaper, is colourful and charming. Filled with whimsical objet gathered from all over the world on the owner’s travels, the interiors reflect a global style. And how we love the wallpapers: from the banana leaves in the lounge to palm fronds in the second bathroom. Our absolute favourite has to be the house’s namesake, of course…
The house has recently undergone an extensive upgrade to include aluminium doors and windows, new wallpaper and carpets. The bathrooms have been upgraded and a grey water system installed. Fresh water harvesting is also in place.
