Neighbourhood Guide to Stanley

Nest Property

Head to the laid back neighbourhood of Stanley and enjoy its chilled out vibe far away from the hustle and bustle of the city. From the picturesque promenade which will no doubt grab you a new ‘candid’ shot for the gram, to the great al-fresco restaurants along the waterfront, beautiful beaches, hikes, and the famous Stanley market. This quaint spot really does have something for everyone, and it’s dog friendly to boot! #sold

Whether you’re looking for a new postcode in the 852, or simply somewhere to spend the weekend over the summer, we’ve put together a handy guide for the go-to spots.

Where to Eat/Drink

Henry’s

One of Stanley’s originals and a well-known restaurant amongst the neighbourhood. Henry’s has gained star reviews over the 20+ years it’s been serving up favourites such as suckling pig, salmon fishcakes and their delicious pecan pudding. You can’t go wrong with a local favourite!

Ocean Rock Seafood & Tapas

Housed in one of Stanley’s most historic buildings, Murray House. The large terrace is perfectly placed right on the water so you can enjoy the sea breeze and beachy atmosphere whilst tucking into your tapas.

The Boathouse

A popular spot with a great location along the waterfront perfect for a spot of lunch or a rose or two in the sun. With its casual vibes, this is the place to go post hike to take in the views and enjoy some well earned grub.

Smugglers

Looking for somewhere to finish off the evening? A truly local neighbourhood gem, this no frills pub, named after the smugglers that used to inhabit Stanley, is the perfect place for a cold one or two!

Go to the beach

Stanley Main Beach

Stanley’s most well-known beach (the clue is in the name), and just a stone’s throw away from Stanley’s main ‘strip’. It’s not the place to go if you are looking for a quiet beach, but it’s most definitely a great spot for a quick dip and cool off after a morning in the market!

St Stephen’s Beach

Slightly further than the main beach giving a more secluded feel. There’s plenty on offer, whether its a barbecue on the beach that takes your fancy or for the more adventurous there’s a water sports centre where you can hire windsurfing boards and kayaks.

Shopping

Stanley Market

The visit isn’t complete if you haven’t taken a stroll around the famous Stanley Market. It might be best known as a popular spot for tourists looking for their Hong Kong-themed souvenirs, but there’s some pretty unique paintings to jazz up your apartment Hong Kong style. Not to mention all the bits and bobs ranging from totally tacky to antique that you didn’t realise you need (and probably don’t need!).

Hikes

Ma Hang Park

If you’re looking for somewhere to walk-off the big lunch you’ve just devoured, Ma Hang Park is a great shout for a leisurely stroll around and the paved trail makes it perfect if you’re with children. Enjoy the sea breeze whilst taking in some of the historic sites of Stanley.

Rhino Rock

From St Stephen’s beach head up to the big rock shaped like a rhino. It’s a short hike, although when we say hike, it’s more of a rock climb / scramble up. Once you’re up you’ll be greeted with lovely views along with the interesting geology which makes for an instagrammable shot slightly different to the usual Stanley views.

The Wilson Trail

If you are setting off from Stanley, most hikers will do Section 1 which takes you to Wong Nai Chung Gap Reservoir. Our recommendation is to do this route in reverse so you can enjoy your well earned drink along the promenade once you make it to Stanley. A great way to keep yourself motivated!
