Nestled on the north-western slope of Tai Mo Shan, Hong Kong’s highest peak, this hiking trail offers an extraordinary adventure featuring four stunning waterfalls. The highlight is a spectacular 35-metre waterfall, complete with a natural swimming pool that’s perfect for a refreshing dip and a scenic picnic.

The journey begins by taking minibus 25K from Tai Wo Station to Lam Kam Road. Hikers walk 10-15 minutes past village houses, stopping at the historic Man Tak Yuen Temple before continuing to Bottom Fall. As the path grows steeper, it reveals increasingly impressive waterfalls and inviting rock pools, making this a memorable exploration of Hong Kong’s natural landscape.

02. Bride’s Pool

Steeped in local folklore, Bride’s Pool derives its evocative name from an urban legend about a bride who tragically fell from her sedan chair during a stormy journey. Fortunately, modern visitors will find a much more welcoming experience, with a clearly marked, paved, and flat path leading to the falls. The surrounding Plover Cove area offers beautiful trails that provide perfect opportunities for brief picnics and relaxing snack stops during a day of exploration.

Accessing this scenic location is straightforward. Travellers can take minibus 20R from Tai Po Market MTR station directly to Bride’s Pool Road, or alternatively hire a taxi for a 25-minute ride. Upon arrival, hikers should follow the marked Bride’s Pool Nature Trail, descend the stairs, cross the bridge, and then turn left to reach the picturesque falls. The journey promises a blend of natural beauty and local historical intrigue.

03. Ping Nam Stream

This scenic hike offers an adventurous off-the-beaten-track experience along Wilson Trail section 10, where hikers navigate rocks and streams to discover a breathtaking waterfall. The journey showcases nature’s beauty, featuring the unique Hula Skirt Fall and the Twin Falls, with panoramic views of Nam Chung Trail. On particularly clear days, the vista extends to a distant view of Shenzhen, adding an extraordinary dimension to the hiking experience.

Accessing this hidden gem begins at Fanling MTR, where hikers can take minibus 56K towards Luk Keng Road. The stream and waterfall are a 35-minute journey from the starting point. Navigating the route involves turning right at an intersection, proceeding to the dam, ascending stairs on the right, following the railing, turning left onto a dirt road, and finally descending towards the stream. While the path requires some navigation skills, the stunning waterfalls and expansive views make the journey well worth the effort.

04. Silvermine Waterfall

Located conveniently near Mui Wo Pier, the Silvermine waterfall trail offers a captivating three-tiered cascade that truly comes to life during the wet season. Comprising Lower Silvermine, Pearl, and Main falls, this natural wonder is dramatically transformed by rainfall. Hikers should note that the rock pools are quite limited during summer months, making the wet season the ideal time to experience the waterfalls in their full, thundering glory.

The journey begins at the Mui Wo ferry pier, with a straightforward route to the falls. Hikers simply walk towards the beach, following the shoreline until they approach Silvermine Beach Resort. Just before reaching the resort, a left turn leads to a path marked with signs guiding visitors to the waterfalls and the historic Silvermine Cave. This accessible trail provides an easy and rewarding hiking experience, especially for those seeking the dramatic beauty of waterfalls at their most powerful.
