September is shaping up to be one of the most exciting months for Hong Kong’s dining scene in recent memory. From a long-awaited Wagyu specialist and a revived Lingnan fine dining concept to a cult-favourite local ice cream brand finally getting its own home, here’s what to bookmark this month.

01. GYU+ Bar by Miyoshi

Self-taught chef Tsutomu Ito built a Michelin-starred reputation in Kyoto through an almost singular obsession with one ingredient — Wagyu — and he brings that same unwavering focus to his first Hong Kong restaurant in Lee Garden One. Every dish on the menu is anchored by meticulously sourced Japanese lean Wagyu, from a delicate Wagyu Sashimi made with Kagoshima A5 beef to a wood-fired Kagoshima Wagyu Tenderloin that is as theatrical as it is delicious. For serious meat lovers, this is one is unmissable.

02. Vesu Pizza Bar

Perched on the 30th floor of One Peking Road in Tsim Sha Tsui, Vesu Pizza Bar makes a welcome return with a bolder, more confident menu than ever before. Neapolitan classics share the bill with genuinely inventive creations, most notably The Ducky — a Peking duck-inspired pizza developed in collaboration with sister restaurant Hutong — and a richly loaded Carbonara pizza topped with guanciale. A well-considered drinks menu rounds things out, with a particularly strong selection of non-alcoholic options for those who prefer to skip the booze.

03. Il Presidente

From the team behind Wan Chai’s much-loved Trattoria Felino comes Il Presidente, a 70-seater restaurant and cocktail bar in the heart of Central. Executive Chef Marcello Scognamiglio takes a “new classic” approach to the kitchen — elevating familiar comfort food through exceptional ingredients — while the bar is equally impressive, helmed by Simone Ciambrone, whose CV spans The Ritz London and the Bulgari Ginza Bar. A cocktail menu steeped in Italian ’80s and ’90s pop culture nostalgia makes for a wonderfully spirited counterpoint to the refined food offering.

04. Canton Library

Aqua Restaurant Group’s latest venture turns the spotlight on Lingnan cuisine — the broad and deeply storied culinary tradition spanning Guangdong, Chaoshan, the Hakka regions and Hainan — reimagined for a fine dining setting on the 29th floor of One Peking Road. Executive Chef Junno Li and Dim Sum Chef Leung Kwok-wa rework coastal seafood classics and dim sum with polish and precision, while a collection of private dining rooms makes Canton Library a natural choice for family celebrations, corporate events and seasonal gatherings alike.

05. TeemToneFai

After a decade of building a devoted following through pop-ups alone, beloved Hong Kong ice cream brand TeemToneFai has finally found a permanent home on Upper Lascar Row in Sheung Wan. The flavours remain as inventive and distinctly local as ever, rooted in Chinese culinary sensibility — think Caramel Apple Da Hong Pao and Lemon Liquorice Ginger Tea alongside the standout Sichuan Pepper Black Sesame. A long-overdue brick-and-mortar debut for one of the city’s most creative dessert makers.
