New Movie Releases in Hong Kong

01. Spider-Man: Brand New Day
Tom Holland returns as Peter Parker in the fourth instalment of the MCU’s Spider-Man saga, picking up after the events of No Way Home in which Doctor Strange’s spell erased the world’s memory of his existence. Now a solitary, exhausted vigilante, Peter struggles with isolation as his former friends MJ (Zendaya) and Ned (Jacob Batalon) move on without him — until a sudden biological transformation makes his powers volatile and unpredictable. A dangerous new invisible threat, the arrival of Jon Bernthal’s Punisher and a mysterious mutant played by Sadie Sink force him into the fight of his life.

02. The Odyssey
Christopher Nolan’s most ambitious film to date brings Homer’s ancient Greek epic to life in stunning IMAX 70mm — the first blockbuster ever shot entirely in the format. Matt Damon stars as Odysseus, the legendary King of Ithaca, navigating a treacherous journey home after the Trojan War, battling mythical creatures including the Cyclops Polyphemus and the Sirens along the way. With a jaw-dropping ensemble cast including Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o and Charlize Theron, and a $250 million budget, this is the cinematic event of the year.

03. The End of Oak Street
From the director of It Follows, David Robert Mitchell, comes a wildly inventive sci-fi survival film produced by J.J. Abrams. When a mysterious cosmic event uproots an entire suburban street from its foundations and deposits it somewhere prehistorically wrong, the Platt family — played by Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor — must stick together to survive in a landscape now crawling with very real dinosaurs. Shot with IMAX cameras and scored by Michael Giacchino, it’s a thrilling blend of Spielbergian adventure and pure, unhinged dread.

04. The Invite
Directed by and starring Olivia Wilde alongside Seth Rogen, Penélope Cruz and Edward Norton, this sharp A24 comedy is an English-language remake of the acclaimed Spanish film The People Upstairs. When Joe and Angela — a couple whose marriage is quietly falling apart — invite their enigmatic upstairs neighbours Hawk and Piña over for a dinner party, what starts as a polite evening rapidly unravels into a pressure cooker of honesty, resentment and unexpected revelations. Witty, uncomfortable and wickedly entertaining, it’s the kind of film that will have you laughing and squirming in equal measure.

05. The Dog Stars
Ridley Scott returns to the big screen with this sweeping post-apocalyptic thriller based on Peter Heller’s acclaimed novel. Jacob Elordi stars as Hig, a pilot who has survived a devastating superflu pandemic and now lives a lonely existence in a Colorado airplane hangar with only his dog and a gruff, heavily armed companion named Bangley (Josh Brolin) for company. When a mysterious radio transmission crackles through during one of his flights, Hig sets off on a desperate and dangerous journey across the ruined landscape in search of other survivors — and something worth living for. Margaret Qualley and Guy Pearce co-star.
