Find the Perfect Rug

Nest Property

Rugs will completely change the feel of a room but can be utterly mystifying to shop for. This guide will point you to your floor’s best friend.

1. Cotton

Pros: It’s affordable, kid-friendly — soft on crawling hands and knees  and easy to clean

Cons: Cotton can wear out quickly, so avoid placing one in a heavy traffic area, like an entryway.

2. Natural

Pros: Fibers like jute, sisaal, bamboo, and hemp are durable, budget-friendly, sustainable materials.

Cons: They can be rough on bare feet and stain easily  wipe up spills the moment they happen.

3. Wool

Pros: Whether it’s handwoven or machine-made, wool is durable and naturally repels moisture and stains (great for Hong Kong muggy weather)

Cons: It’s the pricest option, plus a professional cleaning is recommended every coupe of years.

4. Polypropylene

Pros: This synthetic fiber used in most indoor/ outdoor rugs is virutually fade and mildew proof, holding up to both kitchen spills and torrential rainstorms.

Cons: Cushy, it’s not: The weave can have a plasticky feel underfoot.

5. Synthetic

Pros: You’ll get the look of a pricey wool rug for much less, and it’s stain resistant

Cons: Synthetic fibers aren’t as durable as wool or as soft as cotton.
